Oral presentation: "Montevideo's Prominade"

Montevideo's Prominade

Our  south waterfront promenade is called the "Rambla". It  is four thousand meters long. It  was built by the engineer Juan Pedro Fabini.
The "rambla" was built without respecting the geography places and part of the sea was included..A big wall had to be built to avoid flood.

The oceanographic museum

The zoo museum Damaso Antonio Larrañaga has an interesting history. In 1936 (nineteen thirty six) it  was inaugurated as a bar called "marisco" ; after a short period of  time it became  a cabaret.
It was subsequently used as a morgue and cemetery in buceo. Before becoming a museum it was an oceanographic museum and fishing place. The building resembles a small palace of a fairy tale.
