Roman Colosseum



The Colosseum of Rome (Colosseum in the original Latin, in the current Colosseo Italian) is a great amphitheater of the Roman Empire, built in the first century in the center of the city of Rome.Originally called the Flavian Amphitheater after the emperor who built it, and came to be called Colosseum by a large statue located next to it, the Colossus of Nero, not currently maintained.

For its architectural features, condition and history, the Colosseum is one of the most famous monuments of antiquity.

In ancient times had a capacity for 50,000 spectators, with eightyrows of bleachers. Those who were near the arena were the Emperor and Senate, and as they stood were placed lower strataof society.


The Colosseum was used to gladiatorial contests and public spectacles either mock battles Such as, animal hunts,Executions, re-enactments of famous battles, and dramas basedon Classical mythology.
